Dearborn, Mich. — The Paul W Smith Golf Classic announces that it has raised nearly $5M for Detroit PAL. More than 270 golfers participated in the 12th annual event on Aug. 10, which netted $410,000.
The event, held at the historic Detroit Golf Club, is considered one of the most productive charity golf events in Michigan. The sold-out event, spearheaded by Paul W. Smith, host of The Paul W. Smith Show, on News/Talk 760 WJR, is the largest fundraiser for Detroit PAL, raising more than 20 percent of Detroit PAL's annual budget and supporting athletic, academic and leadership programs for 12,000 youth."We could not have imagined $5M net to PAL when we kicked this off 12 years ago," Paul W. Smith said. "But our sponsors and supporters believed in Detroit PAL and recognized the need for the programs they deliver. I am happy that with our contributions Detroit PAL has been able to expand their athletic, academic and leadership programs to now serve at least 12,000 youth and their families year round, every year.”
Attending the event were many who have benefited from Detroit PAL's athletic, academic and leadership programs including cheerleaders who performed at the reception and Detroit PAL's Youth of the Year, Arianna McMiller, who shared her Detroit PAL experiences at the afternoon reception. Also in attendance were City of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, members of the Detroit Red Wings alumni including Joe Kocur, Eddie Mio and John Ogrodnick and nearly 270 corporate and community representatives.
Also this year two people who were instrumental in the Golf Classic's success from the beginning, Mike Feezey and Martin Hoot McInerny were posthumously made lifetime members of Paul's PALs in recognition of their years of personal support and encouragement of the event. A Paul's PALs donation starts at $100 and makes possible the participation of at least two young people in Detroit PAL programs and $252 supports a year of programming. Donations can still be made to Paul's PALs online.
Title Sponsor for the 2015 event was News/Talk 760 WJR. Presenting Sponsors include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, DTE Energy Foundation, FCA Foundation, Ford Motor Company, General Motors and Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
