DETROIT, Aug. 4, 2020 – The 17th annual Paul W. Smith Golf Classic raised just over $426,000 net, bringing the total financial contribution to $7.2 million net since its founding in 2004. Monies raised go directly to four charities, The Children’s Foundation, Detroit PAL, The Children’s Center, and Variety, the Children’s Charity of Detroit. In all, Paul W Smith Golf Classic proceeds support programs that impact the lives of 55,000 youth.

The Paul W. Smith Golf Classic, held Monday, Aug. 3, at the historic Detroit Golf Club, featured a day of golf, camaraderie and outdoor dining and was redesigned to meet all COVID-19 safety protocols. The event was attended by approximately 190 civic, business and community representatives. Proceeds were raised from sponsorships and individual contributions.

While the golf tourney is finished, the needs of the youth continue. Therefore, the public is encouraged to support the charities through the Paul W’s Caring for Kids Club. The Club will continue to accept donations online year-round at www.paulwsmithgolf.com. Donation subscriptions start at less than $10 a month.

“This year with COVID we knew our youth had additional needs and our charities have been hard pressed to deliver their critical services,” Paul W. Smith said. “We are extremely proud that even with the difficult business climate, our sponsors stepped up. Thanks to their generosity, we have raised more than $7.2 million over 17 years. This year, they contributed more than 426,000.”
